Una visita in Thailandia non è completa senza passare da uno dei tanti campi dove crescono e allevano gli elefanti. Noi abbiamo deciso di rivolgerci al "elephant family sanctuary", un campo abbastanza nuovo dove salvano elefanti (in genere cuccioli) che erano in cattività e si prendono cura di loro. Ci sono diversi pacchetti disponibili, ma noi abbiamo scelto di fare la visita di mezza giornata (1700 baht a persona). In alternativa, puoi decidere di fare tutta la giornata o addirittura passare lì la notte.
Ci sono venuti a prendere direttamente all'hotel alle 7, poi siamo andati a prendere altre che coppie, ed ecco il gruppo al completo, di sole 8 persone. Il viaggio per arrivare al campo è durato circa un'ora e mezza, e quando siamo finalmente arrivati ci hanno spiegato qual era il programma della giornata.
La prima cosa che abbiamo fatto è stato dare da mangiare agli elefanti. Prima di tutto ci hanno spiegato come farci capire e quali parole usare per comunicare con gli elefanti, e poi ci hanno dato una borsa piena di banane e canne da zucchero che abbiamo dato agli elefanti.
Dopo aver dato da mangiare agli elefanti ci siamo diretti ad un piccolo fiume dove abbiamo lavato gli elefanti e dove poi è iniziata una lotta d'acqua a cui gli elefanti si sono uniti felicemente. Giusto per pulirci dopo il bagno, una lotta di fango è stata iniziata dai ragazzi che si prendono cura degli animali, e ovviamente gli elefanti non si sono trattenuti e hanno partecipato alla lotta.
E' stata una giornata bellissima. Non solo abbiamo imparato tantissime cose a proposito di questi animali stupendi, ma ci siamo anche divertiti un sacco! Un'esperienza che consiglio a tutti!
A visit to Thailand is not complete without stopping by one of the many camps where they raise and take care of elephants. We decided to turn to "elephant family sanctuary", a pretty new camp where they save elephants (in general babies) in captivity and they take care of them. There are a lot of packages available, but we chose the half-day visit (1700 bath per person). Other options are the full-day visit and the over-night visit.
They came pick us up directly at our hotel at 7am, and we then went to pick up the other visitors. The complete group was of only 8 people. The ride to get to the camp was of around one and a half hour and when we finally got there they told us the program for the day.
The first thing we did was feeding the elephants. First of all they told us how to communicate with the animals and which words to use, then they gave us a bag full of bananas and sugar canes to give to the elephants.
After feeding the animals we went to a small river where we gave a bath to the elephants and where a water fight began that the elephants happily joined. Just to clean us after the bath, a mud fight was started by the guys who take care of the elephants, and of course the elephants didn't restrain themselves and participated in the fight.
It was a beautiful day. Not only we learnt a lot about these wonderful animals, but we also had a lot of fun! An experience that I recommend to everyone!
