nostro terzo daytrip in Bangkok.
Abbiamo preso il bus da Pattaya (108 baht) che
ci ha portato alla stazione di EKKAMAI.
Da lì abbiamo preso la BTS
(la sopraelevata di Bangkok) per 42 baht fino a Chatuchak, meta fissa di
ogni nostra tappa a Bangkok. C’erano forse 40 gradi, siamo rimaste 15 minuti,
giusto il tempo di comprare i miei shorts e ce ne siamo andate.
Abbiamo preso un tuk-tuk fino a Golden Mount, una collina su cui si erge un tempio buddhista, che unisce la spiritualità e sacralità dei templi buddisti, un insieme di colori e luce tipici dei paesaggi thailandesi e una vista su tutta la città.
Abbiamo pranzato a Krua Apsorn, che abbiamo letto essere il
miglior ristorante di Bangkok. Qui una parentesi divertente: mentre facciamo la
nostra quotidiana partita a speed, uno dei camerieri ci dice che non possiamo
giocare, noi ci guardiamo con aria perplessa, non siamo sicure di aver capito
bene. Dopo qualche giorno ci dicono la stessa cosa nel food court dove mangiamo
ogni giorno al lavoro. Allora cerchiamo su internet e scopriamo che è illegale
giocare a carte in luoghi pubblici, pena l’arresto e la deportazione nel
proprio paese d’origine. Ah ok bene, ci mancava solo quello…
Ma torniamo al racconto della nostra giornata: dal ristorante
abbiamo fatto una passeggiata fino al tempio di Wat Suthat.
Trovarsi in un tempio al tramonto è sempre un’esperienza un
po’ mistica: il sole si abbassa e nel silenzio sacro, interrotto solo da un
canto di preghiera, i colori prendono una luce completamente diversa. Forse è
solo una mia impressione, ma il sole è più grande da questa parte del mondo, e
il tramonto è di una bellezza unica. Tutte le piastrelle grigio-chiare del
pavimento del tempio prendono il colore del cielo, l’oro dei tetti diventa
ancora più oro e il rosso/arancione ancora più acceso.
Ci siamo solo noi e poche altre persone, che interrompono quello che stanno facendo per porgere il saluto al re alle 6. E poi ci siamo noi, a interrompere la sacralità e profondità del momento: Nana e Mila chiedono a dei baby monaci di fare una foto con loro (io mi rifiuto).
Per la serata ci siamo riservate un tour culinario a
Chinatown, dove avevamo appuntamento con Aurora, la mia amica venuta a trovarmi
anche a Pattaya. Eravamo ancora piene dal mezzogiorno quindi il tour culinario
si è trasformato in una passeggiata per la zona, seguita da contrattazioni con
ogni guidatore di tuk-tuk o taxi per il prezzo più conveniente per la stazione,
il migliore: IO: ”to Ekkamai 180 baht”, LUI:”I’ll take you there for 150”….OK.
Storie di giovani senza soldi ma con la fame di conoscere e
viaggiare.
February,
20th: our third daytrip in Bangkok. We took a bus from Pattaya (baht
108) which brought us directly to EKKAMAI station.
From there,
we took the BTS (the skyline in Bangkok) for baht 42 (euro 1.5) to Chatuchak,
regular stop of our trips to Bangkok. We have been there maybe 15 minutes, just
the time to buy my shorts, and we left.
We took a
tuk-tuk to Golden Mount, an amazing Buddhist temple which puts together the
spirituality and sacredness of Buddhist temples with a mix of colors and light
typical of Thai landscapes and a panoramic view on the city.
We had
lunch in Krua Apsorn, meant to be the best restaurant in Bangkok. Then, we
walked to the temple of Wat Suthat.
To be in a
temple at the sunset is always a pretty mystical experience: the sun goes down
and in a holy silent, interrupted only by a song of prayer, the colors take on
a completely different light. Maybe it is my impression, but the sun is bigger in
this side of the world, and the sunset is of a unique beauty. All the
light-grey tiles of the floor assume the color of the sky, the gold of the
roofs becomes even more golden and the red/orange even more vibrant.
There were
us and few other people, interrupting what they were doing to greet the salute
to the King at 6 o’clock. And then we interrupted the sacredness and deepness
of the moment: Nana and Mila asked to some baby-monks to take a picture with
them (I strongly refused).
After 3 minutes we realized they were following
us, we looked at them with a quizzical gaze and they, embarassed, asked us to take us a picture, too. That’s Thailand, where you can feel like Angelina
Jolie every day.
For the
night, we thought about a culinary tour in Chinatown, where we had appointment
with Aurora, my friend, who also came to visit me in Pattaya. We were still
full from lunch, so we turned the tour in a walk around, followed by bargaining
with every tuk-tuk or taxi-driver for the cheapest price to the station. The
best one: Me: “to Ekkamai, baht 180?”, He goes: “I’ll take you there for 150”..ok.
We arrived
in Pattaya around 1 am. I don’t know if it was more the stubbornness, the fact
we don’t stand “blackmails” and people who try to take advantage, or the fact
we were completely broke, but we did a 40 minutes’ walk rather than spend 2
euros for a cab to come back home.
