Festival season in Enschede

La stagione dei festival, il mio periodo preferito. Anche la piccola Enschede si prepara per tutte queste feste e vacanze, e organizza eventi indimenticabili.
Solo un paio di giorni dopo il Bata arriva
Kingsday (Koningsdag) & Kingsnight (Koningsnacht). La festa che colora la
città di arancio. Martedì sera (27 aprile) era quindi Kingsnight e il quartetto
perfetto (io, Roy, Merve e Julia) siamo andati in centro, dove 5 diversi palchi
ci aspettavano, con musica di tutti i tipi, da musica pop, a musica rock, a
musica olandese etc. Qui il tempo era molto meglio dell’anno scorso, dato che
l’anno scorso pioveva mentre quest’anno era tantomeno asciutto. Però devo
ammettere che la musica mi era piaciuta di più l’anno scorso. Comunque devo
dire che Koningsdag è una delle mie feste preferite (un po’ come il 4 Luglio,
sarò patriottica nei confronti di altri paesi).Il 5 maggio è festa nazionale, festa della liberazione olandese, e nel campus c’è un altro festival. Questa volta è durante il giorno e va avanti fino a mezzanotte. Io, Roy, Merve e Julia ci siamo diretti nel campus verso le 3, dove ci aspettava un tempo meraviglioso, con un bel sole caldo! Abbiamo passato la metà del tempo sdraiati sul prato ad ascoltare la musica e prendere il sole. Verso le 7 ci siamo diretti alle tende, dove c’era musica diversa a seconda del palco. Tra una canzone e l’altra abbiamo mangiato qualcosa e siamo poi tornati a casa verso le 11.

Festival season, my favorite time. Even small, little Enschede
gets ready for all these holidays and festivities, and organizes unforgettable
events.
The festival season starts with the Batavierenrace, a student run
that starts in … and ends in Enschede, on Saturday night. After the run, all of
the participants, together with a lot of other students from all over Europe,
get together for the Batavierenfeest, the biggest student party of the Benelux
that is located on our beautiful campus. Last year I worked during the day (I
was flyering for a summer camp) so I could see the run, especially the finish
line. This year though, the weather was awful, it was cold and raining (it even
snowed for a little bit), so I decided to go only for the party. Me and Roy
joined then Merve and Julia that were already on campus and we danced and sang
all night long. I have to admit that it was painfully cold, and this negatively
influenced the night, but it was definitely a lot of fun.
A couple of days after Bata, it’s Kingsday (Koningsdag) and Kingsnight
(Koningsnacht), the holiday that colors the city of orange. Tuesday night (27
April) was thus Kingsnight and the perfect quartet (me, Roy, Merve and Julia)
went to the city center of Enschede, where 5 different stages were waiting for
us, with music of all kinds…opo, rock, Dutch music etc. Here the weather was
much better than last year, since last year it was raining and this year was at
least dry. But I gotta admit that I liked the music last year better. I have to
say, though, that Koningsdag it’s one of my favorite holidays (a little bit
like the 4th of July, apparently I’m patriotic towards other
countries).
The 5th of May is national holiday, liberation day of the
Netherlands, and in the University of Twente campus there is another festival. This
time is during the day and it goes on until midnight. Me, Roy, Merve and Julia
went to the campus at around 3, where a beautiful weather was waiting for us,
with a warm nice sun. Towards 7 we went to the tends, where there was music of
every different kind depending on the stage. Between songs we also had
something to eat and then we went back home at around 11.
For now, the festivals are over (at least the free ones). I’ll keep
you posted if something interesting happens in Enschede.
