"Ed eccola qui... Bangkok, la città dello spasso...dove dollari e marchi vengono scambiati con orologi falsi e ferite vere, è qui che gli affamati di avventure vengono a sfamarsi. Perciò mai rifiutare un invito...mai scartare a priori quello che non conosci, mai mancare di cortesia... e mai trattenersi più del necessario. Tenete la mente ben aperta, fatevi succhiare dall'esperienza vissuta... e se fa male, ne è valsa comunque la pena." (The Beach, 2000).
Iniziamo questo viaggio arrivando a Bangkok, che Leo nel film "The Beach" definisce "la città dello spasso". Una città completamente diversa da tutte quelle che ho visto prima. Una città dove le tradizioni e la cultura orientale incontrano le abitudini e i vizi occidentali. Una città che non ha niente a che fare con le altre città della Thailandia, con un'identità e carattere propri.
Il primo giorno è concentrato sullo shopping. La mattina ci siamo diretti al Chatuchak Market, dove potete trovare di tutto a prezzi bassissimi. A parte il cibo alle bancarelle, troverete anche vestiti, souvenir, dipinti ecc.
Dato che faceva caldissimo, abbiamo deciso di spostarci ad uno dei tantissimi centri commerciali di Bangkok, l'MBK. Lì abbiamo pranzato ed abbiamo fatto un altro giro nei negozi. La sera siamo andati a Khao San Road, la strada più famosa di Bangkok. È difficile trovare le parole per descrivervi questa strada, perché in fin dei conti è indescrivibile. È un ammasso di bar, discoteche, ristoranti, centri massaggi, bancarelle, negozi, ma principalmente un insieme di luci e musiche provenienti da locali diversi, che ti fanno solo girare la testa.

Il secondo giorno abbiamo visitato il Grand Palace, ovvero la residenza ufficiale del re della Thailandia, nonché un complesso di edifici maestosi e spettacolari. Una visita a Bangkok non è completa senza visitare il Grand Palace.
Poi abbiamo fatto un giro tra le vie del centro di Bangkok, cercando le vie più piccole e caratteristiche, ed un giro in barca nel fiume Chao Phraya, dove abbiamo potuto vedere la città da un'altra prospettiva.
Come ultima tappa della giornata siamo stati al Wat Pho, uno dei tanti templi di Bangkok, ma senza dubbio uno dei più belli.
Per finire la giornata in bellezza ci siamo diretti al "Riverside", un rooftop bar con un'ottima visuale sul fiume e lo skyline di Bangkok.
Poi abbiamo fatto un giro tra le vie del centro di Bangkok, cercando le vie più piccole e caratteristiche, ed un giro in barca nel fiume Chao Phraya, dove abbiamo potuto vedere la città da un'altra prospettiva.
Come ultima tappa della giornata siamo stati al Wat Pho, uno dei tanti templi di Bangkok, ma senza dubbio uno dei più belli.

Una permanenza breve ma intensa, un contatto aperto sul mondo da scoprire ogni giorno.
We start this trip in Bangkok, a city completely different to every other city I've seen before. A city where eastern culture and traditions meet western habits and vices. A city that has nothing to do with other cities in Thailand, with an own identity and character.
The first day is focused on shopping. In the morning we went to the Chatuchak Market, where you can find everything at very low prices. Other than food and drinks at the street vendors, you will find clothes, souvenirs, paintings etc. Since it was really hot, we decided to move to one of the multiple malls in Bangkok, the MBK. We had lunch there and then we walked around some shops.
At night, we went to the Khao San Road, the most famous street in Bangkok.
"When you hit Bangkok, there's really only one place to go. The street is busy, full of Thai's and travelers. The Khao San Road is a decompression chamber between east and west. It's where you learn to breathe car fumes and tropical air for the very first time, or else carefully rearrange your memories before you catch your flight home. Yeah, it's all here: you can phone home, meet up with strangers, split up with your friends, watch Hollywood movies while you sip Budweiser and eat a burger or get some massage and green chicken soup. You could be anywhere in the world but you could only find it here." (The Beach, 2000).
It's difficult to find the words to describe this street, because after all, it's beyond words. It's bars, clubs, restaurants, massage centers, street vendors, shops, but mostly, it's a mass (or a mess) of lights and music coming from different places, that will only confuse you and make your head spin.
On the second day, we visited the Grand Palace, that is the official residence of the King of Thailand, and a complex of majestic and spectacular buildings. A visit to Bangkok is not complete without visiting the Grand Palace. After that, we walked around the streets of the city center, looking for the most characteristic and particular places and streets, followed by a boat trip in the river Chao Phraya, where we could see the city from another perspective. As a last stop of the day we went to Wat Pho, one of the many temples in Bangkok, but without doubts one of the most beautiful. To properly end the day, we went to the "Riverside" a rooftop bar with an amazing view of the river and skyline of Bangkok.
A short but intense stay, an open contact with the world to discover every day.
