Cordoba
sabato, dicembre 03, 2016English Version Below -
We left at 10,30 pm from Barcelona, heading to Cordoba.
Despite the discomfort on the bus, I had been able to sleep for almost all the trip. We arrived in Cordoba at 8 am, and we immediately went to visit the Mezquita, a huge Mosque with a Christian Cathedral inside, quite an ironic contrast at an architectonic, cultural and ideological level.
The structure really consists in a mix of different stiles, trends and periods; joining a Cathedral of the Renaissance, a labyrinth of columns reconstructed on the ancient ruins of the Romans and Visigoths, to a Baroque bell tower, everything surrounded by a courtyard full of oranges, which represent a constant for the city, and for the all region.
After the visit to the Cathedral, we entered the characteristic tight streets of the city. It was 9,30 am and the city was quite deserted, but the charme of the little white houses, the narrow streets and of the oranges spread out all over the city is undeniable.
The Arabic culture blends with Christian elements, which mix with the Jewish influences in a small centre where one of the most beautiful district is, indeed, the Judería. Actually, beyond the Mezquina, the things to visit are not many: the Alcazar (Arabic Royal Palace), the Puerta Romana (Roman Door), a small Synagogue and a few minor museums.
But the beauty and peculiarity of the city make it a destination with unique appeal.
